A Learning Organisation has a healthy climate fit for human beings to live and learn in. Many organisations today are less than healthy, and some are downright toxic. That is to say they are ‘poisonous.’ You can take a climate check on your company with the Organizational Toxicity Index below.


For each of the following ten questions choose one of the responses – a, b or c – on the basis of which is truest, in your experience, most of the time.

Scoring

Score 0 for every a, 1 for every b and 2 for every c. The minimum score is 0, the maximum 24. If you scored less than 6, then your workplace is comparatively healthy, although there may be some points that need attention. If you scored 7 to 14, then your workplace is quite toxic – to the point that many people’s performance must be impaired. If you score more than 14, your workplace is getting to the point where it is not fit for human beings to live and work in and where continuous learning will be very poor as a result.

Now add up the total number of points.
